A stable quad setting off from the steps for a L2R session on 11 June 23

Register now for the 2024 learn to row (L2R) courses

Still not too late, but be quick, bookings open 21 April 2024. And we have tasters coming up very soon as well if you want to get a feel for rowing before you commit. Fill in the form at the foot of this page to register interest in L2R tasters or courses or just to ask about any other aspect of rowing.

Tasters in April 2024 - nearly full, but get in touch

We are offering three taster sessions, one on each of three Sundays in April:

Sun 14 Apr 24 at 10.00am (full)
Sun 21 Apr 24 at 11.30am (one or two places left)
Sun 28 Apr 24 at 10.00am (one or two places left)

Each will be about 90 minutes long. These are designed to give you a feel for what rowing involves, through both training on land and (weather allowing) on the water. They will be very informal, but structured so that you can progress from knowing nothing about rowing to having a quick try out on the water in one session. You will then have a better idea if rowing is for you before committing to a course.

To book a place on a taster use the form below or just email me at colinwpercy@gmail.com and state your prefered date. You will very likely get your first choice, but we’ll have to see what demand is like.
There will be a small charge of £2 on the day. See below for information on our location and advice on what to wear.

Courses starting end of May 2024 - booking opens 21 April

Two courses will run. One
will be run on Sunday mornings and the other on Wednesday evenings:

Sun 26 May 24 from 1
1.00am to 1.00pm for eight weeks
Wed 29 May 24 from
6.00pm to 8.00pm for eight weeks

Finish times are approximate - it may be later if we are enjoying ourselves in lovely calm and sunny weather. T
he cost will be £100 all-in for the eight sessions. Those who want to carry on rowing after the courses are normally regrouped at the end of the summer into the new Novice Squad and start paying monthly subs.

Bookings for the L2R courses will open immediately after the taster session on 21 April and we'll start confirming places no later than than 31 April. The format of the course will be exactly the same as in 2023 and until we update this for 2024, refer to the 2023 L2R briefing sheet here for more information.

Advice for new starters - clothing & location

Clothing. Make sure you bring sports clothing (indoor and outdoor, not too baggy - thin layers are best), trainers and also wellies/sandals/wet shoes. Don't bring anything too precious - things can get a bit dirty or wet quite easily. Hoodies or jackets with open pockets are not allowed when rowing or on the rowing machines, as thumbs can get caught (painfully). A full change of clothing including a towel is advised.

Location. Our location is shown on our web page at www.tynerowingclub.org/pages/contact_or_find_us_10598.cfm. Postcode is NE15 8NL. What3Words code for our front gate is refers.span.door.  We are the club north of the river, just past Branzinos Restaurant/Boathouse PH. There is free car parking at the club (in the car park - sharp right after the pub - or round the front by the river).
