Tyne Rowing Club is based on the River Tyne at Newburn, just west of Newcastle upon Tyne. The club was founded in 1852 and is amongst the oldest sporting clubs in England. At almost 20km, we have the longest and best stretch of river for rowing in the north of England.
We have active squads for men, women, veteran men, intermediates, novices and juniors. We have a good fleet of boats of all sizes, a roomful of indoor rowing machines and a small weights room. As well as rowing we hold regular social events in the club and elsewhere.
You will usually find us rowing or training at the club on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6.00 to 8.00pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8.00am till about 1.00pm. We encourage other clubs to visit and use our facilities.
We are pleased to welcome new members. We run Learn to Row courses in July and August for adult beginners and in the summer holidays for junior starters. In May 2010 we launched less formal day time rowing for adults - on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. We work with local schools weekday afternoons in term time.
Please get in touch if you would like to discuss anything or come down for a chat - though best to let us know in advance, if you can. You may want to look first at our newly updated Learn to Row page, which has details of current and imminent courses.

Club cleaned out .......
Thanks to Kevin for organising the club clean up day on the 24th - a skip filled and much more pleasant downstairs and outside. We also have new balcony flooring thanks to Jules, Si and Si's dad.
....... and chained up
And we have new chain operated shutters in the old boathouse as of Monday.
Low tides in August
On Thursday 12 August at noon the tide goes down to 0.02 m. It won't be as low as this again until March 2020! See this site for records lows and highs and this one for predictions. The current week's tides are below and more are here. These are BST. All are for North Shields, so please add about 20 minutes for Newburn.
Tides this week and next (times are BST, so don't add an hour, but add 20 mins for Newburn):
